Update: we have enough to pay our court fees, in just one day! Thank you so much. Following donations will be used to pay for other necessary costs, like housing some of us, moving out, and establishing a new place.
⚠️ COURT STATEMENT & CALL FOR DONATIONS
As you may have heard, we recently lost our court case, and the judge has decided we need to leave in 30 days (from when the verdict was handed to us). And unfortunately, the financial risk of going to a higher court is too great for us to take. 👨⚖️
💸 Aside from this, we also have to pay over 1800 euros to the municipality for the costs they made for court. We only have 8 days left to pay this!
The reason we lost court is that the owner (gemeente Groningen) does not have to legally prove that they cannot do their plans somewhere else. However ❗ this is still politically relevant! Documents that we have made the municipality make public show clearly that they never tried to look for a different location, for either their plans, or to house our community.
Let this verdict show how the college cares about Queer people and our community: words, not deeds‼️‼️
Obviously, as a DIY non-profit space, that houses low-income queer people, we cannot afford this giant bill on our own. During our Save-The-Sjoel party, we already raised a good amount of the money needed. However, unfortunately the people sentenced, the residents, cannot afford it still. 😭
If you are able to, please donate here. Any amount is welcome, but we really do need your help. ❤️
We are planning a (few) last event(s) coming weeks. Stay tuned, and thank you for caring about the Jeugdsjoel.
