Produced by two students of Minerva Art Academy, The Jeugdsjoel (2026) is a documentary exploring the situation of one of the last remaining buildings of Groningen’s Jewish quarter, that was saved from demolition by a group of squatters in 2023. Originally built as a youth synagogue, it is the last of its kind in the Netherlands. Over the last years it has become an important publicly accessible cultural hub and a community center for queer people, women, people of color and other minorities, sustained entirely on grassroots efforts, but now the municipality wants to evict it to use it for a temporary training center for civil servants and enforcement officers. Residents and people in the neighborhood get to tell their view on the matter.
